Rio de Janeiro: President Yoon Suk Yeol announced that South Korea will contribute US$10 million in humanitarian aid to combat the hunger crisis in Africa. This commitment is part of a larger global initiative spearheaded by the Group of 20 (G20) major economies. According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon made this pledge as a participant in the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, which was established at the commencement of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This year marks the inaugural participation of the African Union as a regular member of the G20. "As a founding member, South Korea will actively join G20's efforts to overcome hunger and poverty," Yoon stated during the G20 session. He also promised to fulfill the commitment by the coming month. President Yoon Suk Yeol was present at the launching ceremony of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty held at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, one of the venues for the Group of 20 summit in Brazil.
