Rio de Janeiro: President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa convened for a summit in Brazil to discuss the enhancement of cooperation on supply chains for critical minerals and address security issues, as reported by Yoon's office. This meeting occurred on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Rio de Janeiro and aimed to bolster trade, investment, and energy sector ties between the two countries. According to Yonhap News Agency, the leaders agreed to intensify their collaboration in the critical minerals sector to counteract instability in the global supply chain. President Yoon proposed the initiation of the Korea-Africa critical minerals dialogue at Mining Indaba, an African mining conference scheduled for February in South Africa, seeking President Ramaphosa's support for the initiative. Additionally, both leaders concurred on the necessity to jointly issue a "stern message" opposing North Korea's provocations and its military involvement in support of Russia's conflict in Ukraine. They described this military cooperation as a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
