Parliamentary Committee to Adopt Report for Special Inspector Nominee After 10-Year Vacancy

Accra:Seoul A parliamentary committee is poised to adopt a confirmation hearing report this week for a special inspector nominee, marking a significant step towards ending a decade-long vacancy. The nominee, Choi Kil-su, is tasked with investigating corruption allegations involving the president's family and senior aides, as officials announced on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the report for Choi Kil-su is scheduled for adoption by the parliamentary legislation and judiciary committee on Thursday. This follows approximately a month after his confirmation hearing took place. Choi, previously a senior prosecutor, was nominated by President Lee Jae Myung from a list of three candidates recommended by rival parties and the bar association in August.

The special inspector position, created in 2014 to probe alleged irregularities involving the president's spouse, close relatives, and senior officials, has been vacant since 2016. This vacancy resulted from disagreements between rival parties over candidate recommendations. The planned adoption of the report follows an agreement earlier this week between the ruling and opposition parties to include both favorable and unfavorable assessments of Choi's qualifications.

The special inspector is appointed for a three-year term.
