Seoul: The veterans ministry announced plans on Monday to launch a significant campaign next year to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule from 1910 to 1945. This initiative aims to honor the sacrifices and dedication of the nation's independence fighters. According to Yonhap News Agency, Vice Veterans Minister Lee Hee-wan discussed the campaign during a policy briefing, emphasizing the importance of public remembrance and gratitude for the independence fighters' contributions. The campaign seeks to instill these values in future generations, ensuring the legacy of these fighters is preserved. The briefing also reviewed the achievements of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration concerning veterans affairs. As part of these efforts, the ministry plans to introduce a more equitable and efficient compensation system for veterans. This includes raising compensation fees to their highest levels and constructing new national cemeteries to honor fallen veterans. The veterans ministry, which transitioned from a government agency to a full-fledged ministry in June 2023, reflects Seoul's strengthened commitment to recognizing and honoring those who have sacrificed for the country's freedom and independence.
