Seoul: The commander of the U.S. military stationed in South Korea has stated that the American-led U.N. Command will continue to play a role in maintaining regional peace and security. This announcement comes amid ongoing discussions about potential adjustments to the alliance between Seoul and Washington to maintain credible deterrence on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

According to Yonhap News Agency, U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson, who also leads the U.N. Command (UNC), addressed the future role of the UNC during a ceremony commemorating its 75th anniversary. The UNC oversees the armistice that concluded the Korean War in 1953. Gen. Brunson emphasized the importance of the UNC's mission in the region, stating that the event was not only a commemoration of history but also a reaffirmation of the commitment to peace, security, and cooperation in the area.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, which coincided with an annual security forum organized by Seoul's defense ministry, Gen. Brunson engaged in discussions with senior defense officials from Australia, Canada, and Japan. These discussions focused on enhancing cooperation to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
