Washington: The United States has been moving parts of its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system from South Korea to the Middle East, as reported by the Washington Post, citing two officials. This strategic move is occurring amidst reports of the U.S. military in South Korea transferring some of its military assets due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Pentagon has initiated the transfer of components of the THAAD system, which is designed to intercept enemy missiles during their terminal phase of flight. These systems have been stationed in South Korea primarily to counter missile threats from North Korea.

President Lee Jae Myung addressed the situation earlier, assuring during a Cabinet meeting that the potential redeployment of U.S. Forces Korea's military assets will not compromise the deterrence capabilities against North Korea.
