Washington: The U.S. military has struck more than 5,500 targets in Iran, including over 60 ships, since the commencement of its operation against Tehran late last month, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). This military initiative, codenamed "Operation Epic Fury," aims to dismantle Iran's capacity to project power and disrupt shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway accounting for about one-fifth of global oil supplies.
According to Yonhap News Agency, CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper provided an update on the progress of the operation, emphasizing the strategic objectives and successes achieved so far. In a video message, Cooper highlighted the destruction of four Soleimani-class warships and a significant Iranian ballistic missile manufacturing facility. He characterized the U.S. strikes as "unpredictable," "dynamic," and "decisive."
Cooper further elaborated on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the operation, pointing out their impact on achieving lethal effects in innovative ways. "Our fighters are leveraging a variety of advanced AI tools. These systems help us sift through vast amounts of data in seconds so our leaders can cut through the noise and make smarter decisions faster than the enemy can react," he remarked. He assured that while AI accelerates decision-making processes, humans remain responsible for final decisions regarding engagements.
The admiral's statement underscores the evolving nature of military operations, where technology plays an integral role in enhancing strategic outcomes while maintaining human oversight.
