Washington: U.S. Indo-Pacific Command on Tuesday reaffirmed America's defense commitment to regional allies, hours after North Korea fired multiple close-range ballistic missiles and artillery rockets toward the Yellow Sea. In a statement, the command said that it is aware of the missile launches and is consulting closely with allies and partners.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the command emphasized that based on current assessments, the event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to allied nations. The United States remains committed to defending the U.S. homeland and its allies in the region.

Pyongyang conducted the latest missile launches amid speculation that Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit North Korea soon following his separate meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this month.
