Washington: The United States condemned North Korea's latest ballistic missile launches Wednesday, urging the regime to halt further "unlawful" and "destabilizing" actions while reaffirming its "ironclad" security commitment to South Korea and Japan.

According to Yonhap News Agency, an official at the Department of War issued a statement following North Korea's launch of multiple short-range ballistic missiles on Wednesday morning, Korea time. This marked North Korea's first missile test in approximately five months, occurring just ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit scheduled in South Korea on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

The official stated that the U.S. is closely consulting with the Republic of Korea and Japan, as well as other regional allies and partners, in light of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) missile activity. The United States has condemned these actions and called upon North Korea to cease further unlawful and destabilizing conduct.

The statement further noted that while the U.S. continues to monitor the situation, assessments indicate that the recent missile launches do not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, nor to its allies. The official reiterated that U.S. commitments to the defense of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan remain steadfast.
