Washington: The United States has "strongly" condemned North Korea's recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, describing it as a "flagrant" breach of U.N. Security Council resolutions, a White House official confirmed. The National Security Council Spokesperson, Sean Savett, emphasized that the U.S. is committed to taking "all necessary measures" to ensure the security of not only the U.S. homeland but also its allies, South Korea and Japan. According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea fired what appeared to be an ICBM on a lofted trajectory toward the East Sea. This event occurred shortly after South Korean and U.S. defense chiefs jointly condemned North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia. Savett reiterated that the missile launch, although not posing an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or allies, escalates tensions and jeopardizes regional security. Savett further asserted that North Korea's actions highlight its prioritization of unlaw ful weapons of mass destruction over the well-being of its citizens. He called on the international community to denounce these violations and urged North Korea to engage in serious dialogue. The national security team is actively coordinating with allies and partners in response to the situation. Additionally, a State Department spokesperson highlighted that North Korea's missile activities threaten both regional and international peace and security, undermining global nonproliferation efforts. The U.S. continues to work closely with allies to deter North Korean aggression and address violations of U.N. Security Council resolutions. The commitment to the defense of South Korea and Japan remains "ironclad," the official affirmed.
