Montreal: The U.N. aviation agency has raised concerns regarding North Korea's jamming of GPS navigation signals, urging immediate measures to prevent future occurrences, the South Korean foreign ministry announced on Monday. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), during its recent council session in Montreal, Canada, from March 10 to April 4, adopted a decision denouncing North Korea's GPS interference.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ICAO's decision includes sending a letter, under the council president's name, to North Korea to formally inform them of the decision. This action follows a proposal from the South Korean government to the ICAO council in response to North Korea's GPS jamming activities from October of the previous year through mid-February, which disrupted thousands of flights across over 20 countries and regions.

The decision by the ICAO expressed significant concerns over North Korea's GPS signal interference and urged compliance with international law. Furthermore, it demanded that North Korea take steps to ensure such disruptions do not occur again. In a similar move last June, the ICAO identified North Korea as responsible for GPS jamming for the first time.

The South Korean foreign ministry emphasized its commitment to monitoring North Korea's activities and working with the international community to ensure coordinated actions against provocations like GPS signal jamming.
