Two South Korean Golfers Shine in PGA Tour Playoffs, Climb Rankings

Memphis: Two South Korean golf veterans have begun the PGA Tour playoffs with impressive finishes, securing spots in the top five and making significant moves in the FedEx Cup standings. Kim Si-woo and Im Sung-jae showcased their skills at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, over the weekend.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Si-woo finished as the runner-up, trailing behind world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Kim delivered a bogey-free final round, scoring two-under 68 to complete the tournament at nine-under 271, eight strokes behind Scheffler. This performance propelled Kim up three places to No. 4 in the FedEx Cup standings, marking the highest position achieved by any winless player this season. Kim's consistent form, with 11 top-10 finishes in 22 starts, underscores his strong presence on the tour.

Im Sung-jae, another standout performer from South Korea, tied for fifth with a final score of seven-under, despite a challenging final round where he carded 74. Im, who was tied for second after three rounds, struggled on the last day with only one birdie against five bogeys. Nevertheless, Im's efforts allowed him to jump 13 spots, reaching No. 40 in the FedEx Cup rankings and securing a spot in the upcoming BMW Championship in St. Louis. Im's participation in the past seven Tour Championships is the longest streak for a South Korean player, and he aims to extend this streak with another strong performance.

Tom Kim, the third South Korean in the Memphis field, tied for 12th place with a score of five-under 275. He remains at No. 26 in the FedEx Cup points, ensuring his participation in the BMW Championship and positioning himself for a potential second career appearance at the Tour Championship.

The progression of these South Korean golfers highlights their growing influence and competitiveness in the PGA Tour playoffs as they continue their pursuit for success in the upcoming events.
