Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to hold a meeting in the White House Situation Room to finalize decisions on ongoing peace negotiations with Iran. He emphasized his conditions for Iran to abandon any nuclear weapon ambitions and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's announcement came via a social media post amidst reports that both Washington and Tehran are close to agreeing on a 60-day memorandum of understanding. This potential agreement aims to prolong their ceasefire, reopen the critical strait, and advance discussions on Iran's nuclear program.
In his statement on Truth Social, Trump declared, "I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination." He outlined his primary requirements for a peace agreement with Iran, stressing, "Iran must agree that they will never have a nuclear weapon or bomb. The Strait of Hormuz must be immediately opened, with no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic in both directions."
