Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to hold a decisive meeting in the White House Situation Room to finalize the United States' stance on ongoing peace negotiations with Iran. Trump emphasized the necessity for Iran to abandon any nuclear ambitions and to ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the President's remarks came after reports surfaced indicating that Washington and Tehran are close to agreeing on a 60-day memorandum of understanding. This agreement seeks to extend their current ceasefire, reopen the strategically vital strait, and continue discussions on Iran's nuclear activities.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination," while reiterating his demands. He stressed that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz should be open for unrestricted shipping. Additionally, Trump highlighted the removal of sea mines, acknowledging U.S. military efforts in clearing these hazards and calling on Iran to complete the task.

Trump also mentioned the lifting of the U.S. Naval Blockade in the Strait, expressing optimism for ships to begin their journeys home. Furthermore, he discussed plans for the U.S., in collaboration with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, to unearth and destroy Iran's enriched uranium stored underground following a previous U.S. military strike.

Addressing economic concerns, Trump stated that no financial exchanges would occur until further notice, as Iran has been urging the U.S. to release frozen assets and ease sanctions. While some agreements have been reached, Trump noted that other issues remain unresolved, although he deemed them less significant.
