Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump did not finalize a decision regarding a potential agreement with Iran during a White House Situation Room meeting, despite previous indications that a conclusion would be reached. The New York Times reported that Trump, after a two-hour meeting with his aides, left without making a determination, citing a senior administration official.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump had earlier announced on Truth Social that he would finalize his decision during the meeting, stressing his demands for Iran to abandon any nuclear ambitions and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This comes amid reports that suggested an impending 60-day memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
In his social media post, Trump reiterated his demands for a peace deal, emphasizing that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon and must allow unrestricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz without any tolls. He highlighted the removal of sea mines by U.S. military forces and insisted on Iran's cooperation in eliminating any remaining mines. Trump also mentioned the lifting of a naval blockade, encouraging ships to return home.
Furthermore, Trump addressed the issue of Iran's enriched uranium, stating that it would be excavated and destroyed with the cooperation of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. He also clarified that no financial transactions would occur until further notice, responding to Iran's requests for the release of frozen assets and easing of sanctions amidst economic struggles.
