Washington: U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk, alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, will head the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency. This department is tasked with reducing bureaucracy within the federal government, in line with Trump’s campaign promise for government reform.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump made this announcement through a statement, expressing his enthusiasm for Musk and Ramaswamy’s leadership. He emphasized that their combined efforts would help dismantle governmental bureaucracy, cut excess regulations, and restructure federal agencies, aligning with the ‘Save America’ movement. The department aims to provide external advice and work closely with the White House and Office of Management and Budget to implement large-scale structural reforms and foster an entrepreneurial approach within the government.
Trump specified that Musk and Ramaswamy’s work will conclude by July 4, 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of th
e Declaration of Independence. He expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a more efficient government as a significant milestone for the nation.
