Beijing: U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have reaffirmed their shared objective of denuclearizing North Korea during recent summit discussions in Beijing, as stated by the White House in a fact sheet released on Sunday. The leaders convened in the Chinese capital on Thursday and Friday to address several pivotal issues, including security concerns on the Korean Peninsula, the status of Taiwan, the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, and matters of bilateral trade. According to Yonhap News Agency, the White House noted that both President Trump and President Xi confirmed their mutual goal to denuclearize North Korea. This confirmation comes in the wake of North Korea's intensified efforts to advance its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, with apparent aims to gain recognition as a nuclear power by the international community. Despite this reaffirmation, it remains uncertain whether China's agreement will lead to increased pressure on North Korea to pursue denuclearizatio n, given Beijing's seemingly tepid enforcement of sanctions against Pyongyang. The Trump administration has reiterated its commitment to achieving the "complete" denuclearization of North Korea. The White House fact sheet also highlighted that Trump and Xi concurred on the necessity of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. They called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that no country or organization should be permitted to impose tolls. Additionally, Trump and Xi announced the establishment of two new entities, the Board of Trade and the Board of Investment, aimed at optimizing the bilateral economic relationship. The Board of Trade will oversee bilateral trade in nonsensitive goods, while the Board of Investment will serve as a government-to-government platform for discussing investment-related matters. The fact sheet further detailed China's approval of an initial order for 200 Boeing aircraft intended for Chinese airlines and its commitment to purchasing at least $17 billio n worth of U.S. agricultural products annually through 2028, supplementing the soybean purchase commitments made by China in October 2025.
