Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba are committed to ensuring safety and stability on the Korean Peninsula. This declaration came as the two leaders held their first in-person summit in Washington since Trump's inauguration last month.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump emphasized the importance of working closely with Japan to maintain peace and security, particularly through a strategy of "peace through strength" across the Indo-Pacific region. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring stability on the Korean Peninsula, an effort he initiated during his first term.
Ishiba highlighted the necessity to address North Korea's nuclear and missile programs, which he identified as a significant threat to both Japan and the U.S., as well as the broader international community. Through an interpreter, Ishiba conveyed that both nations have agreed to cooperate towards the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
