The North is in trouble as the reservoir bursts and the water retention wall collapses.


The flood situation in many areas of the North is still serious. In Lampang, the “Ban Nong Reservoir” collapsed, causing a flood of water to flood several villages. In Sukhothai, the Yom River embankment collapsed, causing water to overflow onto the highway, with some areas flooding more than 2 meters high.

Unable to handle, “Ban Nong Reservoir” bursts!

This morning (September 26), locals who had been watching the incident all night live-streamed footage of the incident at Ban Nong Reservoir, Nam Cho Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province, which is a small reservoir, overflowing the spillway and eroding the ridge of the reservoir, causing the reservoir to break, causing a large amount of water to flow into the Chang River, affecting the lower areas, namely Ban To, Ban Sat, Ban Wang Phrao, Ban Mae Long, and several low-lying villages, causing the Chang River to rise higher than before. The water level at the Ban Nam Lon Weir in Ban To, Nam Cho Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province was abo
ut 30-80 cm higher than before and has begun to stabilize, but the water is still flowing strongly. It is expected that the water level will not rise any higher.

Mae Tha District Chief, Lampang Province, said that the reservoir is a small earthen reservoir with a capacity of 730,000 cubic meters, receiving water from Mae Wa, Mae Chang and Mae Tha reservoirs. After the incident, the province was notified and villagers downstream were notified to prepare for the water mass and officers were sent to help the villagers.

In the community of Sop Prab Tai, Sop Prab District, Lampang Province, a community near the Wang River and a low-lying area, the Mae Wang River has overflowed and the water level has reached from the ankles to the neck. Some villagers had to swim into their homes because they were worried about their homes. Rescue units, monks, and many other agencies have come to help the villagers.

The headman of Tambon Sop Prab revealed that the Wang River has flooded the villagers’ houses for the third day.
Currently, 170 households are affected. If the second mass of water flows in, it is expected that the water level will rise almost a meter higher than before.

While in Ko Kha District, the original point is Ban Na Saeng, Na Kaeo West, the water level of Mae Wang has increased significantly from before. It was found that this morning the water level broke a record, higher than the flood of 2011. In the lowlands, the water level is over 2 meters high, making single-storey houses uninhabitable.

Sukhothai is flooded, the water barrier collapsed, the Yom River overflowed for the second time.

Meanwhile, in Village No. 2 and Village No. 6, Khlong Krajong Subdistrict, and Village No. 3, 4, 6, 7, Tha Thong Subdistrict, Sawankhalok District, Sukhothai Province, the water in the Yom River, which has overflowed its banks, has flooded houses in low-lying areas. In some areas, the water level is higher than 1.50 meters. In addition, the water flows across the Sawankhalok-Si Samrong Road, Highway No. 1195, from km. 25 to km. 27. Officials have had to close both sides of the road from the Sukhothai Airport entrance to the Khlong Krajong Bridge crossing intersection because in some areas, the water level is higher than 60 cm. All types of small vehicles cannot pass.

Villagers said that this time the flooding was the second in two months. Water began to overflow the Yom River this morning. The water came very fast and with
great force. The volume was similar to the previous flood. Their house was right in the middle of the waterway, so the water was almost chest high. However, they had to risk wading through the water to buy food and drinking water.

The latest water volume in the Yom River from the north of Sukhothai Province at Wang Chin District, Phrae Province, has a huge mass of water flowing along the Yom River into Sukhothai Province at a volume of 1624.80 cubic meters per second, causing people on both sides of the Yom River to be warned to prepare for the Yom River overflowing its banks until September 28.

“Kwan Phayao” water overflows and floods communities

In Phayao Province, water from Kwan Phayao, which exceeded its capacity, overflowed into houses in the Phayao Municipality community. In some places, the water level was higher than 30 cm. Meanwhile, water from the Mae Tam River overflowed into the Mae Tam Sai Nai community again after continuous rain yesterday, causing the Mae Tam reservoir to overflow the spill
way and flood the Mae Tam Sai Nai community. Last night, the water level rose and overflowed onto Phahonyothin Road at the Mae Tam intersection. However, this morning, the water level began to recede.

Regarding the flood situation in Dok Kham Tai Municipality, water from the Rong Chang River continues to flood houses in the municipality over a wide area due to the heavy rainfall yesterday in the upstream area, causing flash floods for the 7th time this year.
