Seoul:Tesla remained the top-selling imported passenger car brand in South Korea for the eighth consecutive month in September, according to industry data.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) reported that 34,904 imported passenger cars were newly registered in September, marking a 6.3 percent increase from the previous year.
Tesla dominated the market with 12,372 units sold, sustaining its lead since February. Trailing behind was BMW with 6,066 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 5,477 and China's BYD with 2,614.
The Tesla Model Y L emerged as the bestselling imported model for the month, with 8,690 units sold. This was followed by sales of the Model Y Premium at 2,567 units and the Mercedes-Benz E200 with 2,133 units.
Electric vehicles (EVs) represented 52.1 percent of all imported passenger car registrations in September, driven by robust demand for EVs from brands like Tesla and BYD.
