Seoul: Former People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker Kim Young-sun appeared before Special Prosecutor Min Joong-ki's team Monday to be questioned about the allegations that former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee, meddled in candidate nominations for the 2022 parliamentary by-elections.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon and his wife are suspected of receiving free opinion polls from self-proclaimed power broker Myung Tae-kyun ahead of the 2022 presidential election in exchange for securing Kim's nomination for the parliamentary by-election later that year.

Min's team began to grill Kim as a suspect in the election meddling case at 9:17 a.m. after the former PPP lawmaker held a press conference in front of the special prosecutor's office in central Seoul. Kim urged the special prosecutor to open an investigation into the suspected embezzlement of campaign funds by her former accounting staff member named Kang Hye-kyung, who is the first whistleblower of the election meddling case.

Former first lady Kim is also suspected of having tried to get former prosecutor Kim Sang-min nominated for the district previously won by Kim Young-sun ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The special counsel team has already raided the residences and offices of Kim Young-sun and Kim Sang-min and questioned Myung twice last week.
