South Korean National in Georgia Detention to Pursue Legal Action

Atlanta: One South Korean national, who remains in the U.S. following an immigration crackdown in Georgia, is expected to pursue legal action while still in custody, informed sources revealed.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this individual is the only one still in detention besides the 316 South Koreans who were released from a facility in Folkston. The release followed a crackdown by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a South Korean electric car battery plant site in Bryan County. Initially, 330 people were detained, including 14 foreign nationals. Those released are currently en route to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to board a chartered flight back to South Korea.

The individual in custody reportedly has family in the U.S., all of whom hold green cards, and he is seeking permanent residency. Although he can post bail, he is required to stay detained for now. The South Korean consulate in Atlanta is expected to assist him with his legal pursuits.

The released workers departed the detention facilities early Thursday aboard buses, accompanied by U.S. immigration officials. Seoul officials stated that the workers are leaving under "voluntary departure" rather than deportation terms.
