Seoul: South Korea is set to repatriate the remains of 12 Chinese troops who were killed during the Korean War while fighting alongside North Korean forces. The announcement was made by the defense ministry on Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the repatriation event will take place at Incheon International Airport, located west of Seoul, on Wednesday. South Korea has been repatriating the remains of Chinese soldiers since 2014, having returned 1,011 remains to date under internal law and humanitarian considerations.
This year's handover ceremony will be publicly held and will see the attendance of vice-ministerial-level officials from both South Korea and China. This marks the first time in three years such high-level officials have participated in the event, reflecting an improvement in bilateral relations between the two countries.
