South Korea Takes Silver in Women’s Epee Team Fencing at Asian Games

Nagoya:South Korea secured a silver medal in the women's epee team fencing competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, unable to retain their title from the previous games.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean team, consisting of Song Se-ra, Lim Tae-hee, Yang Seung-hye, and Lee Hye-in, was defeated by China with a score of 45-28 in the final match held at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, near Nagoya, Japan. Song Se-ra, who had already claimed the individual epee title earlier in the week, added a silver medal in the team event to her achievements.

The bronze medals in the women's epee team event were awarded to Singapore and Kazakhstan. The competition format involves nine head-to-head bouts, each lasting three minutes or until one team reaches a score that is a multiple of five. A team wins the event by scoring 45 points first or leading at the end of the ninth bout. South Korea led 7-6 after the first two bouts but fell behind as China took control with a 15-13 lead in the third bout, maintaining their advantage until the conclusion.

In other events, the South Korean men's foil team, consisting of Youn Jeong-hyun, Lee Kwang-hyun, Kim Tae-hwan, and Im Cheol-woo, achieved a bronze medal after losing to Hong Kong 45-41 in the semifinals. This result ended South Korea's previous winning streak, having secured the foil team title at the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games.
