South Korea Forms ‘Multilateral Hormuz Coalition’ With Britain, France

Seoul: South Korea has announced its participation in a 'multilateral Hormuz coalition' with Britain and France, as reported by Segye Times. This strategic move is part of a broader international effort to ensure maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision comes amidst escalating tensions in the region and a desire to safeguard vital shipping lanes. South Korea's involvement in the coalition underscores its commitment to international security and cooperation with key allies. The coalition aims to deter potential threats to maritime navigation and ensure freedom of passage for commercial vessels.

The move also aligns with ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region, as highlighted by simultaneous developments such as the U.S. expressing optimism over a potential deal with Iran, reported by Kyunghyang Shinmun. Additionally, the Donga Ilbo notes that the South Korean government's focus remains on strengthening its international partnerships through strategic alliances and military collaboration.

Meanwhile, South Korean President Lee is scheduled to participate in a videoconference on the Hormuz security design led by Britain and France, as reported by Maeil Business Newspaper. This participation further indicates South Korea's active role in shaping regional security dynamics and contributing to global peacekeeping initiatives.
