Seoul: SK Group and LG Group have stepped up their relief support and recovery efforts for residents affected by recent flooding across the country, the companies said Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, SK Group has donated 2.3 billion won (US$1.66 million) in cash and relief supplies to aid the recovery in the flood-hit areas, including Sancheong of South Gyeongsang Province. Affiliates of the group are also offering on-the-ground support in the affected regions.
SK hynix Inc., the chipmaking arm of SK Group, offered 175 packages of relief tents and floor mats to displaced people in Asan and Yesan counties in South Chungcheong Province. Additionally, SK Telecom Co. has set up mobile phone charging stations, distributed portable chargers, and supplied other emergency goods.
LG Group has contributed 2 billion won to the nationwide recovery efforts. LG Electronics Inc. has established emergency repair centers in South Chungcheong Province to fix damaged home appliances. In addition, LG H and H Co. has offered personal care products, such as toothbrushes, toothpastes, and shampoos, while LG Uplus Corp. has provided telecommunications services to displaced people.
Torrential rains have triggered floods and landslides, leaving at least 18 people dead since Wednesday. The heaviest damage has been reported in southern regions, including Sancheong.
