Seoul:SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is contesting the court's decision on property division in his ongoing divorce case with former wife Roh Soh-yeong, where the court allocated her a 33 percent share of their joint assets.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Chey submitted a document to the Supreme Court on Monday as part of his appeal against the Seoul High Court's decision that ordered him to pay 944 billion won (US$707.8 million) to Roh. The ruling was made after the Supreme Court sent the case back for retrial, excluding a 30 billion-won slush fund allegedly linked to Roh's late father, former President Roh Tae-woo, from the marital contributions.
In his appeal, Chey disputes the legality of the appellate court's decision, which set Roh's share at 33.3 percent, arguing that recent increases in SK shares should not have been factored into the calculation. The value of SK shares rose significantly from around 160,000 won to approximately 800,000 won during the retrial period.
Roh has not yet responded with a counter document to the Supreme Court, with a deadline set for Tuesday. Chey filed for divorce in 2017, following his admission of an extramarital affair and having a child outside of his marriage to Roh, whom he wed in 1988. The couple has three children together.
