U.S. President Donald Trump said on social media that the U.S. had begun "major combat operations in Iran," accusing Iran of pursuing a nuclear program and developing missiles capable of reaching the U.S. Israeli officials said Iran also launched retaliatory strikes.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the foreign ministry emphasized the importance of reducing tensions in the region. "The government calls on all parties involved to make utmost efforts to ease tensions in the region," the ministry stated. The ministry is closely monitoring the situation related to Iran and is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of South Koreans residing in Iran.
The ministry has announced plans to convene a meeting later in the evening to review the situation, led by Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina. There are approximately 70 South Koreans currently in Iran, and no casualties have been reported among them.
