Science Media Center Korea Launches to Enhance Science Journalism

Seoul: The Science Media Center Korea (SMCK), an organization dedicated to offering the academic community's perspectives on scientific issues to journalists, officially commenced operations on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the SMCK celebrated its opening ceremony in Seoul, approximately two months following its registration as a nonprofit organization in South Korea. This Seoul-based office joins the global Science Media Center Network, which now has a presence in seven countries, including Britain, Spain, and Germany.

"The SMCK will enhance the public's understanding and trust in scientific technologies by supporting the media in delivering science-based information to the public," stated First Vice Science Minister Koo Hyuk-chae during the ceremony. He expressed hope that the center will act as a vital communication link connecting science technology, the press, and the public.
