Seoul:Samsung Electronics Co. has announced an estimated third-quarter operating profit exceeding 107 trillion won, driven by robust demand for semiconductors linked to artificial intelligence.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean tech giant expects its operating profit for the July-September quarter to reach 107.4 trillion won, representing a 782.5 percent increase from the previous year. This figure surpasses the average market forecast by 1.6 percent, as per data from Yonhap Infomax.
The company's third-quarter revenue is projected to have increased by 126.6 percent year-on-year to 195 trillion won, though net profit figures have not been disclosed in the earnings guidance. If confirmed, Samsung will have achieved record quarterly revenue and operating profit for the fourth consecutive quarter since late 2025.
This anticipated result would also mark the first occasion a South Korean company has reported a quarterly operating profit exceeding 100 trillion won. Although Samsung did not provide a detailed breakdown of earnings by division, its device solutions unit, which includes semiconductors, likely contributed a significant portion.
The performance surge is largely credited to ongoing global investment in AI infrastructure, which has heightened semiconductor demand and sustained high memory chip prices. Industry experts predict these favorable conditions will persist into the next year.
Samsung has significantly benefited from the AI supercycle, thanks to its status as the world's largest memory chip producer. The company's pioneering move into mass production and shipment of sixth-generation high bandwidth memory (HBM4) chips is expected to further bolster earnings next year.
While the semiconductor segment thrives, Samsung’s device experience unit, which manages consumer electronics and mobile operations, is anticipated to report weaker results. The company plans to release its final earnings report later this month.
