Lee and El-Sisi Discuss Economic Cooperation in Seoul Summit

Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Seoul on Thursday to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation between South Korea and Egypt, aiming to elevate their relationship to a strategic level.

According to Yonhap News Agency, El-Sisi arrived in South Korea on Wednesday for a three-day state visit, marking his first trip to the country since 2016. The summit began with an official welcoming ceremony at Cheong Wa Dae, where both leaders participated in a joint inspection of an honor guard.

The discussions took place in both restricted and expanded formats, involving senior officials from both nations. The agenda is expected to cover economic cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, infrastructure, and supply chains. Additionally, the leaders are set to explore ways to enhance people-to-people exchanges and address regional political and international issues.

Scheduled activities for the leaders include an agreement signing ceremony, a joint press briefing, and a state luncheon. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung noted that President El-Sisi's visit serves as a crucial opportunity to advance the bilateral ties into a strategic partnership and to bolster cooperation with Africa and the Middle East.

The last meeting between the two leaders occurred in November during President Lee's visit to Egypt.
