Samsung Regains Top Spot in Global Smartphone Market in Q2: Data

Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. has reclaimed the leading position in the global smartphone market during the second quarter, surpassing its U.S. competitor Apple Inc., industry data revealed on Tuesday. Samsung captured 24 percent of global smartphone shipments in the April-June period.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Apple followed in second place with a 20 percent market share. This shift comes after Apple's brief lead in the first quarter where it held a 21 percent share, narrowly surpassing Samsung's 20 percent, as reported by the market tracker.

Counterpoint Research attributed Samsung's resurgence in the second quarter to the strong sales of its Galaxy S26 series, moderate price adjustments in important markets, such as India and the Middle East, along with aggressive marketing campaigns. Despite Samsung's success, the global smartphone market experienced a significant contraction due to the persistent memory chip supply shortage.

Overall, global smartphone shipments decreased by 11 percent compared to the previous year, marking the weakest second-quarter performance since 2013, as noted by Counterpoint Research.
