Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced it has secured a 468.6 billion-won (US$322 million) contract to construct two container carriers for an undisclosed shipping company in Africa. The vessels are slated for delivery by May 2028, as stated in a press release by the company.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this latest contract brings Samsung Heavy's total ship orders to $1.2 billion for the current year, marking progress towards its annual order target of $13.9 billion. The company has achieved approximately 9 percent of this target so far.

Samsung Heavy Industries highlighted its strategy to concentrate on higher-margin container ship orders, leveraging its technological capabilities in environmentally friendly vessels. The company also pointed to an increasing demand for replacement in the 8,000- to 13,000-twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) segment as a key factor in its future plans.
