Samsung Display Hosts OLED Industry Event to Discuss IT Segment Trends

Taipei: Samsung Display Co. on Thursday hosted a business event inviting partners in the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display industry to share the latest trends in the laptop and monitor segment. The South Korean display panel maker said it invited 400 officials from major clients, including Intel Corp., Acer Inc., and ASUSTeK Computer Inc., to the event held in Taipei amid growing demand for OLED panels used in the information technology (IT) segment.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jong-hyuk, vice president of the large display business unit, highlighted the advancements in IT OLED products, emphasizing their ability to deliver lifelike resolution and immersion, enhancing visual enjoyment for users. Lee encouraged participants in the OLED ecosystem, including product manufacturers and software developers, to collaborate in preparation for the increasing popularity of OLED products within the IT industry.

Samsung Display revealed that OLED panels represented a mere 3 percent of the display market for laptops and monitors in 2024. However, this figure is expected to climb to 13 percent by 2029, based on research conducted by industry tracker Omdia. The company reported that its shipments of OLED panels for laptops and monitors reached 4.9 million units in the first half of this year, marking a 50 percent increase from the previous year. Additionally, Samsung Display accounted for 74 percent of the sector in the second quarter.
