Samsung Display Earns Green Certification for New Eco-Friendly Office Building

Seoul: Samsung Display Co., a panel manufacturing unit of Samsung Electronics Co., announced that its new office building has achieved top ratings from a U.S. green building certification system, highlighting its energy efficiency and eco-friendly design.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Display Research, the newly constructed headquarters located in Giheung on the southern outskirts of Seoul, has been awarded the highest "platinum" grade in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The LEED certification, developed by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council, assesses the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of buildings and neighborhoods, promoting the use of eco-friendly practices and products.

The new office building received recognition for its high energy efficiency, incorporating advanced energy management technologies from the design and construction phases. These technologies enable real-time monitoring and optimization of energy use, allowing operators to comprehensively analyze energy consumption, environmental conditions, and energy costs. The building's solar power facility also contributed to securing additional points for the certification.

Beyond energy efficiency, the headquarters excelled in water utilization, featuring rainwater and graywater reuse systems and low-maintenance landscaping in its outdoor park to minimize water consumption. Samsung Display also earned recognition for minimizing the environmental impact throughout the project, from site selection to construction.

"Our new office building was designed not only for the people who work at Samsung Display, but also for the local community and the future environment," said Lee Kun-hyung, head of global infra technology at Samsung Display. "It reflects our ambition to become a carbon-neutral landmark in the mid- to long-term."
