Seoul: South Korea's chip exports are predicted to reach an all-time high for the second consecutive year in 2025, fueled by a rising demand for advanced semiconductors driven by the global expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) market. This was stated by the first vice industry minister during a recent industry event.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Moon Shin-hak announced at the 18th semiconductor day ceremony that semiconductor exports are expected to exceed $165 billion this year, marking a record high for the second consecutive year. Government data reveals that from January to September, Korea exported $119.7 billion worth of semiconductors, which is a 16.9 percent increase from the previous year.

Last year's outbound shipments of semiconductors totaled $141.9 billion, underscoring the robust growth in this sector. Moon Shin-hak emphasized the government's commitment to sustaining Korea's lead in the memory chip market and closing the gap with global leaders in system semiconductors and fabless technologies.

Song Jai-hyuk, chair of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, highlighted the strategic importance of semiconductors, noting their critical role in AI and quantum computing. He urged for proactive support and the development of an innovative industrial ecosystem to bolster the industry's growth.
