S. Korea to Bolster Efforts to Enhance IP Protection of K-Content

Seoul: South Korea's trade minister announced plans to expand efforts to protect the nation's intellectual property through trade agreements, amid the growing global popularity of Korean entertainment content. Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo emphasized the significance of these efforts during a meeting with approximately 30 trade experts to strategize on safeguarding intellectual property in the global market.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cheong highlighted that while South Korean businesses have been experiencing trade surpluses in the intellectual property sector, they also face significant challenges such as unauthorized online copying and copyright infringements. He pointed out that the digital and artificial intelligence-driven economy presents both challenges and opportunities, necessitating improved trade rules to ensure that South Korean technology and content receive appropriate recognition internationally.

During the meeting, experts advised the government to take a proactive stance in protecting intellectual property through free trade agreements. This recommendation comes in light of the diminishing role of the World Trade Organization in global trade matters.
