Tashkent: Senior diplomats from South Korea and Uzbekistan have convened for a significant policy consultation meeting, discussing enhancements in bilateral ties with a focus on energy and critical minerals, as reported by Seoul's foreign ministry on Tuesday. The meeting took place as part of the 18th Korea-Uzbekistan policy consultation session held in Tashkent.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Eui-hae of South Korea and her Uzbek counterpart, Mirvohid Azimov, explored opportunities to boost cooperation across several sectors including energy, transportation, and infrastructure. The discussions also extended to potential collaborations in critical minerals, healthcare, digital technology, and climate response. Both sides expressed a commitment to expanding these areas of cooperation in the near future.

Another key topic of discussion was the forthcoming Korea-Central Asia Summit, scheduled for September 16-17. The officials engaged in preparations to ensure the event's success, which is expected to further cement regional partnerships.

Chung Eui-hae emphasized the importance of Uzbekistan's support for South Korea's efforts towards peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula. Azimov, representing Uzbekistan, conveyed his country's understanding and support for these initiatives.

In addition to the policy meeting, Chung met with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. The discussion covered bilateral relations and preparations for the Uzbek president's anticipated visit to South Korea in September, aiming to further solidify the nations' strategic partnership.
