Russia and North Korea Celebrate 78 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Pyongyang:Russia has announced plans to strengthen its relationship with North Korea during a reception in Pyongyang commemorating 78 years of diplomatic ties. This event was reported by North Korea's state media on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the reception was hosted by Russian Ambassador Andrey Podelyshev, marking his first event since assuming the position late last month. The gathering took place at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club and was attended by North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jong-gyu.

During the event, speakers affirmed the enduring alliance between the two nations, referring to it as a "sacred common cause" and expressing confidence in the ongoing cooperation for the prosperity of both countries. Podelyshev described the relationship as "exemplary," grounded in equality and mutual respect, as noted on the Russian Embassy's Telegram channel.

The foundation of their bilateral ties is the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signed in June 2024 by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Podelyshev highlighted that this treaty elevated cooperation to a new level and set a precedent for future developments.

Kim Jong-gyu emphasized North Korea's commitment to expanding and enhancing its traditional relations with Russia, pledging efforts to bolster tactical and strategic cooperation. The reception was also attended by a Russian delegation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by D.V. Sergienko, deputy head of the Migration Service.
