Seoul: The ruling Democratic Party (DP) has introduced a new bill aimed at mandating police to record the entire investigative process, a move designed to enhance transparency in law enforcement activities. This legislative effort comes amidst the party's ongoing initiative to revoke the prosecution's supplementary investigative authority.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the proposed bill requires both police and prosecutors to document every stage of an investigation within an interagency criminal justice information system. This documentation will include evidence gathered during the investigation and materials pertinent to potential sentencing. Additionally, the system will log the names, positions, and affiliations of investigators and officials overseeing the investigation.

The bill also stipulates that investigators must video record the full execution of searches, seizures, and inspections, alongside maintaining detailed written records of these activities. This move is seen as part of a broader effort by the DP to mitigate concerns about the potential weakening of victim protection following the proposed removal of prosecutors' supplementary investigative powers.

The legislation was introduced by Democratic Party Representative Kim Seung-won. It follows the party's recent decision to formalize its stance against allowing the prosecution the right to conduct supplementary investigations, despite differing opinions among some party members.
