Seoul: Renault Korea Motors Co., the South Korean unit of Renault S.A., announced a significant increase in its sales for July, with a 33.1 percent jump from the previous year. This surge was primarily driven by strong domestic demand, which effectively counterbalanced a decline in exports.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Renault Korea sold a total of 7,251 vehicles in July, a sharp rise from the 5,447 units recorded in the same month last year. The boost in domestic sales was substantial, with figures more than doubling to 4,000 units. This growth was largely attributed to the Grand Koleos sport utility vehicle (SUV), launched in September of the previous year, which accounted for over 75 percent of the local sales.
In contrast, the company’s exports saw a decline, with only 3,251 units shipped overseas, marking an 18.3 percent decrease compared to the previous year. Despite this, the Grand Koleos SUV had expanded its reach to 20 countries by July, with a total export volume of 3,401 units since its exportation commenced in May.
Cumulatively, Renault Korea’s sales from January to July totaled 54,278 units, signifying a 14.1 percent increase from the 47,580 units sold during the same period in the previous year.
