Seoul: The Presidential Security Service (PSS) announced that it has successfully obtained U.S. patents for its AI-based X-ray screening technology, which is designed to detect hazardous materials. The technology aims to enhance screening operations by leveraging artificial intelligence.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the two patents, registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, cover technology that utilizes X-ray equipment to identify hazardous substances like sulfuric acid. The system also includes algorithms that allow it to function using artificial intelligence. The patents were awarded following an approximate three-year review process. The PSS noted its expectation that these patents will expedite research and development efforts to apply the technology in practical scenarios.

Hang In-kwon, chief of the PSS, emphasized the agency's goal of surpassing the current limitations of screening operations, which largely depend on the experience and skills of field personnel. By utilizing science and technology, the PSS aims to improve these operations. Hang also stated that the agency is committed to making a meaningful contribution to national security and public safety through the introduction and advancement of this technology.
