SEOUL: Protesters demanding the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol engaged in a tense standoff with police outside the presidential residence in Seoul on Thursday. Approximately 1,000 demonstrators marched to the entrance of the residence in Hannam-dong, chanting slogans such as "Arrest insurrection ringleader Yoon Suk Yeol," despite police warnings. According to Yonhap News Agency, the protesters accuse President Yoon of staging an insurrection by briefly imposing martial law on December 3. The group comprises members of the militant labor umbrella organization Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, along with liberal civic groups. The rally began earlier in the afternoon near Seoul Plaza, where protesters also faced a temporary standoff with police in Namyeong-dong. During their march to the presidential residence, the protesters occupied roads, causing disruptions to traffic. The protest highlights ongoing tensions and dissatisfaction with President Yoon's actions among certain segments of the South K orean populace.
