Seoul: The presidential Office of National Security announced that it conducted a meeting to evaluate the impact of global supply chain issues and to deliberate on strategies to mitigate potential repercussions for South Korean businesses. The session was spearheaded by Third Deputy National Security Adviser Oh Hyun-joo and included representatives from the ministries of finance, foreign affairs, industry, and oceans and fisheries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, participants at the meeting examined recent changes in the global economic security landscape that could threaten domestic supply chains. They reached a consensus on the necessity of enhancing interagency coordination to minimize potential adverse effects on Korean enterprises, as communicated by the office in a release.

The meeting followed an emergency session convened by the office to review the supply chain of rare earths. This review was prompted by China's implementation of stricter export controls on minerals crucial for advanced technologies, such as semiconductors and electric vehicles. China has introduced new regulations obligating foreign firms to secure government approval prior to exporting products containing specific rare earth elements. Furthermore, Beijing recently enacted sanctions against five U.S.-linked subsidiaries of Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean, a significant player in the shipbuilding partnership between Seoul and Washington.
