President Lee Pledges Livelihood Improvements on Eve of 500th Day in Office

Manila:President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday committed to maintaining his focus on enhancing people's livelihoods, pursuing reforms, and promoting national unity, as he approaches his 500th day in office.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized his government's dedication to these priorities during a meeting with key aides. He stated, "Without being swayed by any external influence or resistance, (the government) will unwaveringly follow the path toward improving people's livelihoods and pursuing practical reforms and inclusive national unity."

The president acknowledged the national economy's remarkable achievements but noted that people's livelihoods have not improved accordingly. He pledged to ensure that economic growth benefits everyday lives, highlighting the potential for South Korea to become the sixth country with a per capita national income of $40,000 among nations with populations over 50 million.

Lee particularly stressed the importance of addressing challenges related to housing, employment, and finance to support people's livelihoods. He instructed his aides to work diligently to translate economic growth into tangible benefits for citizens. "During the rest of the year, Cheong Wa Dae and the government will have to mobilize all efforts to ensure that the warmth of growth spreads throughout society," he stated.
