POSCO Future M Secures Major Anode Materials Supply Deal Worth 671 Billion Won

Seoul: POSCO Future M Co., the battery materials unit of POSCO Holdings Inc., announced it has secured a significant 671 billion-won (US$468.9 million) contract to supply anode materials to an undisclosed global carmaker over the next four years.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this agreement stands as POSCO Future M's largest supply contract since it began its venture into the secondary battery materials sector in 2011. The company has opted to keep the identity of the carmaker confidential, as per a mutual agreement stated in a regulatory filing.

The contract is scheduled to commence in October 2027 and continue until September 2031, with provisions for an extension subject to mutual consent. The deal includes a "reservation period" extending until 2037, potentially increasing the total contract value to 1.7 trillion won over a decade.

POSCO Future M holds a unique position as South Korea's only mass producer of anode materials for secondary batteries, making it one of the few non-Chinese entities capable of large-scale reliable supply. Its clientele includes major South Korean battery manufacturers such as LG Energy Solution Ltd., SK On Co., and Samsung SDI Co. The company has also recently secured a supply agreement with a prominent Japanese battery maker.

With ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China, and China's recent moves to control battery materials exports, POSCO Future M reports heightened interest in its anode materials from international battery producers seeking non-Chinese supply options.
