Seoul: The number of South Koreans relocating to new regions increased by 6.3 percent in April compared to the previous year, driven by a surge in housing transactions across the nation, recent data revealed.

According to Yonhap News Agency, approximately 506,000 individuals changed their residences in April, marking an increase of 30,000 from the same period last year. This rise in population mobility aligns with the recent recovery observed in South Korea's real estate market.

In March, the number of homes bought and sold reached 71,975, reflecting a 7 percent increase from the previous year, as per separate data from the Ministry of Finance and Economy. The population mobility rate, which measures the number of people relocating per 100 residents, increased by 0.7 percentage points year-on-year, reaching 12.1 percent.

By region, Seoul experienced a net outflow of 6,341 residents, while Gyeonggi Province, which encircles the capital, saw a net inflow of 3,797 residents. Meanwhile, the southern port city of Busan recorded a net outflow of 1,040 people.
