Police to Form Dedicated Investigation Teams for Industrial Accidents Across the Nation

Seoul: Police will establish dedicated teams to investigate industrial accidents at metropolitan and provincial police agencies across the country following President Lee Jae Myung's instruction, a top police official said Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Park Sung-joo, chief of the National Office of Investigation, stated that the National Police Agency plans to set up an investigative command center for industrial accidents and major disasters nationwide. Dedicated investigation teams will be established at the criminal investigation units of the metropolitan and provincial police agencies.

Park further mentioned that the police will discuss ways to establish a close investigative cooperation system with the labor ministry. This initiative was discussed in a meeting with reporters, highlighting the importance of collaboration between different governmental bodies in tackling industrial accidents.

President Lee Jae Myung instructed the formation of a dedicated investigation team system to eradicate fatal industrial accidents during a Cabinet meeting last week. He emphasized the need for stronger workplace safety measures to prevent such tragedies and called for tougher punishments against violators. This directive follows the fifth fatal workplace accident this year at a construction site operated by POSCO E and C Co., a subsidiary of the steelmaker POSCO.
