Police Raid Seoul City Government and Engineering Company Over Overpass Collapse

Seoul: Police on Friday raided the offices of the Seoul city government, an engineering company, and other parties involved in the demolition of an overpass in western Seoul that partially collapsed earlier this week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the raids occurred three days after a section of the Seosomun Overpass, which was undergoing demolition, collapsed on Tuesday. The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals and injuries to three others. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that searches and seizures were conducted at seven locations, including the infrastructure headquarters of the city government and contractors involved in the demolition work, as part of an ongoing investigation into the collapse.

The simultaneous raids involved 33 police investigators and 20 workplace safety officials under the labor ministry. The primary goal of these operations is to secure evidence to determine the exact cause of the collapse and identify those responsible for the accident, as reported by the police. The collapse occurred on Tuesday afternoon during an on-site safety inspection, which followed a halt in demolition work earlier that morning due to signs of a slight shift in the structure.

Police conducted an immediate inspection of the site following the collapse and have obtained security camera footage from the location at the time of the accident.
