Over 600 Pet-Related Accidents Reported in South Korea Since 2023

Manila:More than 600 accidents involving pets have been reported in South Korea since the beginning of 2023, highlighting a potential need for government intervention, a lawmaker stated.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Rep. Yoon Joon-byeong of the ruling Democratic Party noted that, as of August this year, there have been 601 pet-related accidents, resulting in 603 casualties, including three fatalities and 14 serious injuries. This information was sourced from data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Nearly all of the incidents, 599 cases, were attributed to dog bites, with one case involving a cyclist colliding with a dog that was not on a leash. Despite the significant number of casualties, Yoon criticized the ministry for not allocating a budget to prevent or manage such incidents effectively.

He urged the government to allocate necessary funds and to develop comprehensive safety regulations to address this issue.
